LOS CABOS SHOPPING OFFERS A TREASURE TROVE OF FUN FINDS
Los Cabos, Mexico (July 5, 2005) – Los Cabos has long
been admired for its abundance of blessings from Mother Nature, but these
days there are just as many earthly delights to be found in this rapidly
growing destination. From fine crafted jewelry and original works of art
to chic designer clothes and regional handicrafts,
Los Cabos today is indeed a shopper’s paradise.
Although Los Cabos is still a relatively small town, there is more chance
of running out of time before running out of shopping options. From
traditional street stalls to chic boutiques to an elegant air conditioned
mall, one can truly shop-till-they-drop. Deciding where to begin is the
only question. The two towns of Los Cabos,
Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, offer surprisingly different
shopping experiences, but proper planning can ensure a motivated consumer
will return home with a suitcase full of rewards.
Start with a gentle stroll through the meandering
streets of San Jose del Cabo, where a traditional Mexican plaza takes
center stage. San Jose del Cabo has garnered a well-earned reputation for
being an artists’ town. With numerous galleries, studios, and artist
cooperatives, San Jose is indeed a place to go for art of local, national
and international repute. In addition, small boutiques feature house
furnishings, jewelry and fashion by Mexican and international designers.
For a more traditional experience, visit San Jose’s
myriad stalls throughout town where handicrafts and souvenirs are
displayed daily or stop at one of the various mercados in the central
plaza featuring the wares of regional artists and craftsmen. Feel free to
haggle – its part of the fun. Go for a walk, take in the sights, enjoy a
leisurely lunch and browse -- the perfect way to pass an afternoon in a
picturesque Mexican village.
On the other-hand, if shopping gets the blood pumping
and adrenaline running, a serious bargain hunter will head straight for
Cabo San Lucas. With the Puerto Paraiso Shopping Mall, intertwining
streets full of stores and street stalls, and the daily Marina Mercado
Arts & Crafts Market, adjacent to the Cabo San Lucas Marina, Cabo San
Lucas offers a dizzying array of shopping opportunities. From Mexican
silver, gems and stones to pottery and handicrafts and high-end designer
duds to huaraches and desert-inspired linen-wear visitors may need to buy
an extra suitcase as well to get their loot back home.
Many shops in both towns feature an array of arts and
crafts from the many regions of Mexico. In addition, one might seek out
some local specialties such as desert-inspired soaps and candles or some
Damiana, a liqueur made from local herbs, jewelry designed on premises at
local shops or perhaps locally blown glass from the Glass Factory in Cabo
San Lucas. Local artists such as Kaki Bassi at her Kaki Bassi Gallery or
Dana Lieb at her Pez Gordo Gallery, both in San Jose del Cabo, sell
original works of art for those with an eye, while down in Cabo San
Lucas, Puerto Paraiso offers anything one might need on vacation as well
as take home treats. From swimwear to cigars, plus restaurants, movie
theaters and nightlife, Puerto Paraiso is convenient, convivial and cool
(air conditioned!)
Shopping in Los Cabos is also hassle free because both
dollars and pesos are accepted almost universally. Credit cards are taken
at most stores while the outdoor stalls tend to prefer cash. ATM’s are
conveniently found in both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. And of
course traveler’s checks are always welcome. Shopping in paradise…it’s
almost a vacation in itself!
Families, honeymooners, mature travelers, golfers,
eco-tourists, artists, photographers, sightseers and others find what
they are looking for when they visit Los Cabos. Located at the southern
tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula, Los Cabos offers travelers an exotic
escape within easy reach of most U.S. cities.
With non-stop flights or convenient connections
available from Los Angeles, Oakland, Ontario, San Diego, San Francisco
and Sacramento, California; Houston and Dallas, Texas; Atlanta, Chicago,
Minneapolis, Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Seattle, New York [EWR],
Salt Lake City, and more, Los Cabos is both accessible and exciting. For
